St. Bavo
"After the Urban Sketchers Symposium 2019 ended, I had a day to travel from Amsterdam to Haarlem. As I settled in to paint inside the Grote Kerk, St. Bavo, there was a huge blast of sound from the organ! Visitors jumped! Soon it became clear that it was not a concert for us, but rather someone practicing. The starts and stops were disturbing. Then it became the best companionship possible for my own practice, trying to capture these pipes, statuary and flourishes that spoke to me from 1738. I added a layer a pigment. The orgnanist repeated a phrase. We leap-frogged for over an hour, lost in our work."
